Munich to host the next One Young World Summit

On 21 September 2024, Munich took over the baton from Montreal as the next Host City of the One Young World Summit.

Closing ceremony as a kick-off

The closing ceremony of this year's One Young World Summit, which took place from 18-22 September in Montreal, Canada, marked the official start of Munich's preparations to host the One Young World Summit Munich, 2025.

As the closing ceremony coincided with the start of the Oktoberfest in Munich, Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter sent a video greeting to the delegates in Montreal. Kurt Kapp, City Director and Deputy Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Development, took over the baton in Montreal from Ericka Alneus, City Councilor of the City of Montreal.

In his speech, he emphasized that Munich is happy to host the One Young World Community a second time after 2021 and thanked the companies that made this possible with their financial support as partners of the host city. At the end of the closing ceremony, over 2,000 delegates from more than 190 countries celebrated a successful Montreal Summit dancing to the sound of Munich band KYTES.

High-caliber summit in Montreal

At the One Young World Summit in Montreal, young representatives from international companies met with young leaders from emerging and developing countries to discuss topics such as climate change, artificial intelligence, health equality and conflict resolution. They were accompanied and inspired by high-caliber Counsellors.

Ilka Horstmeier, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, kicked off the event and presented a project with a school in South Africa. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence with Professor Yoshua Bengio, who is considered the Godfather of AI in Canada. Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa, musician and Live Aid founder Bob Geldof and author Margaret Atwood were among the other prominent personalities at the Summit.

Strong Munich presence

Numerous delegates from companies in Munich and Germany attended the summit in Montreal. As the next Host City, Munich was represented with a booth at the Summit. Colleagues from the Host City team took the opportunity to network with the Munich partners and answered questions from delegates from all over the world. Next year’s Summit in Munich sparked a lot of interest.

The One Young World Summit Munich will take place from 3-6 November 2025 at the Munich ICM. The Summit is a unique opportunity for Munich to present itself to an international audience as a future-oriented, innovative business location and as a modern and cosmopolitan city with a unique quality of life and to sharpen its profile in the global talent competition.

Companies can present themselves at the Summit with their innovations, corporate values and social and sustainability projects and connect with young talents from around the world. Delegates get access to a global network of young leaders and become ambassadors and multipliers for Munich.
